Cardiff Metropolitan University: Institutional placement policy

Gradconsult were commissioned by Cardiff Metropolitan University to develop a comprehensive institutional placement policy to improve the efficiency of placement and work-based learning delivery, and ensure compliance across the university.

The process included internal consultation with a range of stakeholders involved in delivery of placement provision to develop a comprehensive understanding of how the institution and their placement modules worked. Gradconsult also engaged colleagues across the institution with institutional responsibility for compliance aspects including legal, health and safety and insurance.

The placement policy document produced brought together a range of disparate ways of working and processes and ensured increased efficiency and consistency of process delivery for placements across the university.

This work contributed to a powerful commendation from the QAA about the institution’s organisation of placements.

The QAA specifically noted:

‘The consistent and highly effective organisation and management of placement activity across the institution.’

‘I approached Gradconsult earlier this year with the brief of creating a Placements Policy document that would enable us to appropriately manage our Placements at Cardiff Met, ensuring we were following best practice and meeting all legal requirements. This was no easy task as there was little documentation already in place.

They were great to work with and required little input from myself. They developed a comprehensive understanding of how the institution and our placement modules work by engaging with key stakeholders. They followed the brief exactly and produced a document which met all of our requirements in the agreed timescales. I would highly recommend them to support with any placement related documentation, their expertise in the area is highly valuable.’
