Newcastle University: Strategy, research and consultancy
In 2022/23 Gradconsult facilitated the development of Newcastle University’s new careers and employability strategy, informed by the wider institutional strategy and national context.
In 2022/23 we worked with Newcastle University to undertake a full review of their careers and employability strategy.
The process included internal consultation consisting of workshops with key teams and stakeholder groups, student focus groups to inform approach to engagement with career development and in depth interviews with key senior internal stakeholders. The consultation sought to understand:
The team’s values and purpose, what they enjoy and what they find more challenging.
The lived student experience of Newcastle students and to experiment with creating new ideas around delivery that fit within this experience.
The end product of the process was a new strategy for the service that was informed by the wider institutional strategy and national context, plus a suite of materials and guidance for the service to engage colleagues from across the university with the strategy.
For the new strategy to be a success, it was critical that academic colleagues outside of the careers and employability service were empowered to embed employability into student education. As such, included within the communications toolkit were models, frameworks and guidance for academics to support them to deliver employability within the curriculum.
